Tips for the Holidays

Tips for the Holidays

by Sarah Tambunga - December 08, 2016

Thanksgiving is officially over and the holiday season is in full swing! It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s also the time of year when we tend to overindulge. With an abundance of cookies, pies and peppermint flavored lattes, it can be difficult to maintain healthy habits, like eating right and exercising. Can we enjoy the holidays without sacrificing our waistlines? Yes, we can!

Here are some tips to help you stay on track this holiday season.

Bring a healthy snack to the party. While everyone is bringing cheesecake, pie, and other holiday treats, you can be that friend with a healthy veggie and fruit tray! Chances are you aren’t the only one watching your waistline, and at least you know there is one snack you can enjoy guilt free.
Make exercise fun. Enjoy a friendly dance competition or a game of charades with friends and family to get you moving. You can also participate in a walk or run through the neighborhood to see Christmas lights in your community like the one here!
Enjoy the conversation. Sure, we all enjoy the food at a gathering, but remember to enjoy the social aspect, too! The holidays are a great time to catch up with family and friends and the more you’re talking the less you’re eating some unnecessary calories.
Give back. Spend some time volunteering this holiday season. You can help cook food for a local shelter, deliver meals, or help gather items for a family in need. The time and energy spent helping others is a great way to remember the real reason for the season.
